The Color Room

"The Color Room" was a fun experiment pairing vivid geometric patterns with color-changing lights in order to observe their changes in appearances. Brightly painted 2-dimensional shapes flashed under the glow of quickly alternating lights while cast shadows projected viewers into the patterns themselves. This subsection of the show was the first take at a more immersive display of her artwork. Included were several 2-dimensional paintings and one motorized sculpture titled "Go and Eye Will Follow (The Whirligig)" (read more about this piece in Fixed Gaze).

These sets of four paintings were designed to show what the original color palette would like in red, green, and blue light. After creating the original piece it was taken under the different lights and the changes were replicated in the color palettes of the paintings that follow.

These two larger paintings come from a series of patterns created in 2019; this early work became a catalyst for an entirely new way of creating. Previously feeling lost and unable to find an identity that felt genuine—Miller focused in on something she knew she loved: color. Research about our perception of color blossomed into a strong interest in the psychological and physiological processes that occur in order to interpret all sensory information. To this day she continually uses her art to investigate these different phenomena in a playful and engaging way.
